1 Peter 4:12-19

Suffering for Christ is pretty much the Christian calling.  So many people think that life is just hunky dory after you become a Christian, and in a sense it is.  But, in this life, it is not always easy.  We need to rejoice in this as v.14 states.  Remember that Christ first was insulted and turned away and even murdered from the very people He came to save.  We, in turn, are trying to serve Him, yet through that service we too can be insulted, turned away, and sometimes even murdered by those people that we are trying to witness to.  But always remember, that Christ first suffered.

This suffering that Peter is referring to in these verses is stipulated on how we are living our lives.  He says; do not suffer as those living in the world and living as sinners.  Suffer as righteous men and women of Christ.  Suffer as one serving the Lord and living for the Lord.

v.18 shows us a quote from Proverbs that judgment will be brought down.  It makes me ponder for a moment and think in awe of how merciful God is to save me.  Why save a horrible sinner like me?  He is so good even though I am so wicked.  So we know judgment will come.  We need to place our trust in Christ as our Creator and do well in this life; so that Christ will be glorified, and in turn we will be spared judgment.  Praise be to God for His mercy.
